Ten ways to deal with dental problems - know with Suryadeep Hospital Dental Expert.

Caring for your teeth-health daily can improve its condition. Here are a few tips you need to keep in mind.
People who are susceptible to the dental problem of sensitive teeth, experience a lot of pain when having food and drinks that have extreme temperatures — too hot or too cold. Dentists of Suryadeep Hospital Gurgaon say that if the following points are kept in mind then one can deal with sensitive teeth.

  • Use toothpastes for sensitive teeth which have desensitizing agents. It works by blocking off the dentinal tubules, so that the nerves don't get stimulated. Take a little paste on your finger and directly apply it on the sore spot and gently massage.
  • Brush your teeth with gentle strokes after every meal. Use soft tooth brush with interweaved bristles.
  • Floss regularly. This will clean corners of the mouth where toothbrush can't reach.
  • Make sure that you use a mouthwash after every meal.
  • Avoid drinks that have citric acid as the major content such as tomato juice, orange juice, lemon, soda and aerated beverages.
  • Stay away from cold items such as ice cream, ice candy. Avoid hot food such as hot brownies, sizzlers or anything right after it's cooked, since gums are weak and tend to respond unfavorably.
  • Keep away from spicy food as it may burn and the gums tend to react unfavorably.
  • Sweet food will worsen the situation, once the outer layer of the tooth i.e. enamel is damaged; sugary foods have easier access to the nerves of your teeth, which can cause sharp and shooting pain.
  • Calcium is a prime ingredient for preventing tooth problems and dairy is a great source, with choices such as milk, yogurt and cheese, along with other options like broccoli, almonds, Brazil nuts and dried beans.
  • Eat the right food and maintain a balanced diet. Lot of vitamin and mineral deficiencies also causes dental problems. Eating high-fiber foods keeps saliva flowing, which helps create mineral defenses against sensitivity. Good sources of fiber are dried fruits such as dates, raisins and figs, and fresh fruits like bananas and apples.
  • To maintain your oral hygiene and to get rid of sensitivity one must regularly visit the dentist to keep a check on all the factors that may lead to sensitivity issuesSource: - TOI TNN | Dec 5, 2014, 12.00 AM IST
